Storstac is excited to announce we have fabricated Canada’s first shipping container house to be permanently located in a major city’s (Hamilton’s) downtown core, right here at our Toronto shipping container fabrication facility. This precedent setting build nicknamed the Hamilton Shipping Container House is already BUILDING PERMIT APPROVED and will consist of eight 40′ shipping containers sitting on top of a solid concrete block foundation. Designed by Toronto Architect Jason Halter of Wonder Inc, the house has been custom designed to suit his clients specific tastes, which Jason describes as being “iconolastic”. Although the unmodified shipping containers themselves are fabricated in China (as China is the only place in the world where shipping containers are fabricated) all of the modification work and materials used for this project will be undertaken at our Toronto, Canada fabrication facility. Follow us on Instagram @storstac_containers for updates on this project.

Our Task

New Old Stock – Jason Halter at New Old Stock was tasked with all aspects of the shipping container home’s design. Jason was also tasked with the role of Project Manager for this project, meaning he is responsible with producing architectural and engineered drawings, as well as building permit submission.

Storstac – Storstac Inc. is tasked with engineering and completing all of the shipping container modifications and steel-work for this home. These shipping container modifications include cutting and framing all window, door and interior openings as well as a number of structural reinforcements where required. The shipping container home will arrive on site and be installed by Storstac.
